Outlaw Motor Company (OMC) builds the patent pending LR8 engine which provides a fuel agnostic, high power density, and low weight solution for military and commercial heavy cargo drones, aircraft, and the automotive and marine sectors.
The LR8 is a hybrid electric rotary vane engine design that combusts hydrogen gas with air following the Carnot cycle with eight separate chamber volumes achieving one combustion event per chamber per rotation of the crankshaft. These eight chamber volumes are created between the outer limit of the rotor and the rotor housing and extend between the two surfaces by the leading and trailing faces of the adjacent vanes. This combustion chamber architecture facilitates eight combustion events per single complete rotation of the rotor. This compares to .5 combustion events per piston per rotation of the crankshaft of a conventional 4-stroke engine of any design.
The LR8 engine generates 700 hp and 9,800 lb-ft of torque at 400 rpm while weighting 280 lbs. It integrates into available aircraft architectures, is fuel agnostic although optimized to burn hydrogen, and is designed specifically to operate in direct drive applications.
